My name is Brittany, and my story is sadly similar to many others with chronic illness. I graduated from college with a BA in Political Science and with minors in Theatre Arts and Religious Studies. I then attended and graduated from law school. I also worked part-time during both college and law school and passed both the California and Massachusetts Bar Exams on my first attempts. I practiced as an attorney representing youth in foster care for a large portion of my career carrying caseloads of up to 195 cases and appearing in court 4-5 times a week. I relied heavily on my memory, quick response times, pure energy, hard work, and problem-solving skills. I went on to experience different areas in the law which required me to be able to learn, retain, and apply new information. However, my career has been short-lived.
After about 6 months of unexplained and often debilitating symptoms, I was finally diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in May of 2018 and Hyperadrenergic POTS in September of 2018. These illnesses have now been added to prior diagnoses of IBS, SIBO, GERD, reactive gastritis, herniated disc, and pulsatile tinnitus. I am now unable to work due to complications and symptoms associated with these illnesses.
Prior to my diagnoses, I experienced interactions with doctors who minimized my symptoms and questioned whether they were psychosomatic. As more and more tests came back normal, the more raised eyebrows I was met with. Finding doctors who are a good fit and who trust my symptom reporting has been invaluable. I now have the privilege of having a team of doctors who are willing to keep trying, even when interventions fail.
Wellacopia offers a way to help streamline this process for patients who are already struggling with illnesses and symptoms who do not need the added stress and energy drain of wasted doctor’s visits with someone who is not a good fit.
I am so thankful to have the opportunity to join the Wellacopia team and to be part of something that I feel passionately about! Whether you have a common cold or are looking for more obscure answers, finding a kind and compassionate doctor who is a good fit for you can change your life. I wish everyone the best of luck in their searches!
